Quite a number of candidates who answered this question performed creditably well. However, some points were still not mentioned. These include the fact that Zakat is a source of income to Baytul-Mal (Public Treasury); proceeds from Zakat can be used to promote Da‘wah; it creates fraternal and symbiotic relationship between the rich and the poor; it controls evil tendencies from the poor towards the rich and it enhances cordial relationship among Muslims irrespective of their status.
