    Examine the importance of the military in the novel.


Observation

Few candidates attempted this question. However, they were not able to relate it to the importance of the military in the novel.

The importance of the military in the novel include:

  • The inclination of man towards treating his fellow man harshly for whatever reason.
  • The military administrators who paralyse the University of Nsukka’s school system by short funding and embezzling of funds.
  • The oppressive nature of the military regime and their suppression of freedom of speech. This is portrayed by the disappearance of Nwankiti Ogechi; and Ade Coker’s death by a letter bomb.
  •  

    Candidates’ performance in this question was poor.
