Question 2

Comment on the role of the Parson in the play.

The role of the Parson includes:

  • He symbolises the prophet of doom who feels he is superior to others.
  • He has a poor knowledge of the Bible.
  • He is pretentious and arrogant.
  • He ridicules himself by visiting Lawyer Onyimdze to warn him against offending God for winning the court case against bigamy.

Few candidates attempted this question and most of those who did dwelt on irrelevancies.

Candidates’ performance was poor.
