Examine the act of ‘Bunburying’ in the play

Observation
  • A good number of candidates attempted this question. However, many of them do not know what ‘bunburying’ is. This showed that many of them had not read the text.

    • ‘Bunburying’ is a coinage and metaphor for living a double life.
    • Jack creates a fictitious, headstrong brother Ernest to escape to the city to indulge in his pleasures, while, Algernon, creates a sick friend to go to the country.
    • The demands of the Victorian society which enables hypocrisy and ‘bunburying’ to thrive.

      Candidates’ performance in this question was poor.
