Literature-In-English Paper 3 WASSCE (PC), 2017

Question 1

DELE CHARLEY: The Blood of a Stranger

Comment on the significance of the meeting between Maligu and Soko at the cave.

Observation

A good number of candidates attempted this question. Rather than discuss the significance of the meeting between Maligu and Soko at the cave, they gave mere narrations on the characters of Maligu and Soko.

The following points were expected from the candidates:

  • The unannounced visit of Maligu to Soko where he broached the matter of his brother’s purported letter.
  • Maligu’s blackmailing of Soko and aking him complicit to the plan he unveils.
  • Maligu and Soko’s intrigue to ostracise Kindo Kindo and have unfettered access to the King whom they influence.
  • The intrigues that end in the deaths of Soko, Parker and Whitehead.
  • The banishment of Kindo for killing in peace time, against custom.

Candidates’ performance was fair.
