QUESTION 1

  1. Identify the voice part for which each of the melodies below is best suited.


From the list of musical forms below, choose any three that are vocal:

Suite, Madrigal, Overture, Passacaglia, Chorale, Partita, Aria, Concerto, Cantata.

    • Identify the composer of each of the following songs:
    • Art thou troubled?
    • Who is Sylvia?
    • The Nigerian National Anthem.

For each of the four musical examples given above (A, B, C, D)

(a) Indicate the human voice (Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass) that would be most suitable for the musical excerpt;

(b) Using minims, write out the lowest and the highest note for each excerpt in the manuscript sheet provided.

OBSERVATIONS

 

  • Candidates performance was average. Though, some were unable to differentiate between vocal and instrumental musical forms. They were also unable to identify the human voice range thereby lose a substantial part of the marks. They were expected to respond to the question thus:
