OBSERVATIONS

 

Candidates’ responses to this question were remarkable, though a few candidates responded wrongly by not knowing the transposition interval of the various type of saxophone. This caused them to lose a better part of the total marks. Such candidates should have responded thus:
a. (i)     Types of  Saxophone
            Sopranino (Bb)
            Soprano - (Bb)
            Alto - (Eb)
            Tenor - (Bb)
            Baritone - (Eb)
            Bass - (Bb)                                                                  
    (ii)    Transposition
            Sopranino/Soprano - (Bb) transposes a Maj 2nd above the concert pitch
            Alto - (Eb) transposes a Maj 6th above the concert pitch
            Tenor - (Bb) transposes a Maj 9th above the concert pitch
            Baritone - (Eb) transposes a Maj 13th above the concert pitch
            Bass - (Bb)       transposes a Maj 16th above the concert pitch                      
b.(i)      Mouth piece                                                                                       
   (ii)     Neck, Head joint.                                                                                           
   (iii)    Key hole (key)
