Question 5

(a)        Changing colour balance;      
(b)        retouching;
(c)        cloning part of an image;
(d)       changing brightness and contrast.

Observation

The candidates answered the question very well showing a good knowledge of digital editing. The candidates were expected to provide the following answers in order to score good marks:

  •       Changing colour balance

-           Open/launch the software;
-           import image into photoshop workspace;
-           select image menu;
-           choose ‘adjust’;
-           select varnish from the ‘adjust’ sub – menu;
-           view possible colour balance changes in selected areas or make
changes separately in dark areas, mid – tone or highlights;
-           save image.

  •       Retouching

-           open/launch the software;
-           import image into the photoshop workspace;
-           go to  image menu;

  •       choose the ‘magic wand/lasso tool;
  •       use the magic wand/lasso tool to select areas or parts to be retouched;
  •       select the ‘rubber stamp/cloning tool;
  •       move the ‘rubber stamp/cloning tool icon to select area that have

      similar colours with the area  in  the image to be retouched;

  •       paint over the defects as  noticed in the selected areas;
  • save image.       

(c)        Cloning part of an image
-           open /launch the software;
-           go to the tool box;
-           select the ‘clone’ tool;
-           position the cursor over the area to be cloned;
-           press ALT + Enter to clone the area;
-           select the source area;
-           move the cursor over the source area;
-           paint the target area;

  •       save image. 

     
(d)       Changing brightness or contrast
-           open/launch the software;
-           import image into photoshop workspace;
-           select the image menu;
-              choose brightness/contrast menu slider option;
-           for brightness, use the mouse to click on it;
-           select the brightness slide option;

  •       use the mouse to slide the brightness triangle, left or right to darken or

lighten the image;

  •       for contrast, use the mouse to select the contrast option triangle;
  •       to increase or decrease the contrast slide contrast option triangle

horizontally (left or right);

  • save image.
