(b)   (i)     State two instances when an athlete could be disqualified in a 100 m race.

       (ii)     List four materials needed for officiating in a long jump event.          [4 marks]

(c)   List two examples of each of the following events.                

  1. throwing events;
  2. jumping events.                                                                                           [4 marks]

    (d)    State five instances when a throw is valid in a javelin event.                    [5 marks]

Observation

This question was popular and the  candidates’ performance was fair. 

In part (a)(i), however, some  candidates could not state clearly what a relay race is.  In part (b)(i)  candidates could not state instances when an athlete could be disqualified in a 100m race.

The expected answers were as follows:
(a)(i)    A relay race
            -           is a race involving a team of four athletes/runners
            -           each athlete/runner covers a specific distance on the track and with change
                        of baton.        

(b)(i)    Instances an athlete can be disqualified in 100m races
            -           Reporting late to the starting point
            -           Running in another athlete’s lane
            -           Beating the gun after a warning
            -           competing without being registered
            -           Using wrong number/vest.
