Observation

This question was quite popular and the candidates’ performance was fair.
 
Nevertheless, in part (a)(i), few candidates could not state the differences between hockey game and football game.  In part (a)(ii), candidates could not mention instances when it is side out in volleyball game.  In part (c)(ii), candidates could not explain how a substitution is made in handball game.

The expected answers were as follows:
(a)(i)    Differences between football game and hockey game

  1. In football game, feet/legs are used while in hockey game stick is used;
  2. In football game, goal may be scored from any part/point on the field , while in hockey goal may only be scored from within the striking circle/the designated area on the field;
  3. In football game, the goalkeeper mainly uses the hand while in hockey, the goalkeeper mainly uses the stick/body;
  4. There are two umpires in hockey while there are three referees in football game;
  5. Football goal post is wider and higher than that of hockey;
  6. In football game, inflated ball is used while in hockey a hard uninflated ball is used;
  7. In football, game lasts for 90 minutes while hockey game lasts for 70 minutes/football game lasts longer than hockey game;
  8. In football, the ball is bigger than hockey ball;
  9. The size of the football field is bigger than the hockey pitch;
  10. There are more protective wears in hockey game than in football.

          (ii)    Instances when it is a side out in a volleyball game
            
                     When serving team:

  1. touches the net with any part of the body;
  2. reaches over the net to spike/play the ball;
  3. touches the ground on the opposite side of the centre line under the net;
  4. allows the ball to touch the body;
  5. scoops/holds carries/punches/the ball;
  6. double hits the ball/explained;
  7. plays the ball out of bound/court;
  8. serves out of order/fails to rotate;
  9. performs/touches the ball more than three times consecutively;
  10. serves a ball that fails to cross over the net.

(c)     Procedure for making substitution in handball game  

  • player being substituted comes out of the playing court;
  • through the substitution zone/area of this team;
  • substitute player then enters the court;
  • through the substitution zone/area.
