  2. Three gymnastic activities performed on horizontal bars;                 [3 marks]

Observation

This question was not popular and the performance of the few candidates that attempted it was poor.

In part (a)(i), candidates could not state the stages involved in performing forward roll in gymnastics.  In part (b), candidates could neither list agility activities in gymnastics nor gymnastic activities performed on horizontal bars or on apparatus.

The expected answers were as follows:

(a)(ii)   Stage involved in performing forward roll in gymnastics

  1. Assume a squatting position;
  2. Hand on the mat/floor;
  3. Fingers pointing forward;
  4. Tuck-in the head;
  5. Keep knees to chest;
  6. Roll forward on back;
  7. Push with the hands;
  8. Finish in a standing position;
  9. Knees should be between the arms.

(b)(i)    Agility activities in gymnastics

  1. Forward roll;
  2. Backward roll;
  3. Cartwheel;
  4. Head stand;
  5. Hand stand;
  6. Fly Spring;
  7. Crouch jump/Frog jump.

     (ii)  Gymnastic activities performed on horizontal bars

  1. Skin the cat/inverted/inner hand;
  2. Chin up/flex arm hang;
  3. Swinging/drips;
  4. Hanging/explained;
  5. Tumbling.

(iii)   Gymnastic activities performed on apparatus

    • Neck spring;
    • Long arm over swing;\short arm over swing;
    • Thief vault;
    • Through vault;
    • Astride vault.
