TThis question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor.  In part (a)(i) few candidates correctly mention starting positions in track races, in (a)(ii) many candidates could not correctly state features of a print race in athletics. In part (b)(i) candidates could not correctly state advantages of the alternate method of baton take-over in relay races and in (b)(ii) candidates could not correctly state methods of baton take-over in a relay race.  In part (c) few candidates correctly state duties of referee, chief track judge, starter and track umpire as officials in an athletics meet.
However, the expected answers were as follows:
1(a)(i)  STARTING POSITIONS IN TRACK RACES

• crouch start
• standing start

       (ii) FEATURES OF A SPRINT RACE IN ATHLETICS

• It is started by crouch start/named
• it requires speed and power/an explosive event
• it is run in lanes
• lanes are maintained through the race
• it requires high concentration and focus
• competitors are eliminated from the event after one false starts
• competitors shall start at the same time
• competitors are placed based on order of return
• it is an anaerobic event
• it is started on a command
• a starting block is used during the start
