Observation

TThis question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair.  In part (a)(i) many candidates list equipment in football game,  In  (a)(ii) many  candidates could not correctly state instances when a player is not offside in a football game. In part (b) candidates could not correctly state instances that may be regarded as foul play in a hockey game.  In part (c) many candidates correctly listed equipment in hockey game.
However, the expected answers were as follows:

                       When

  • he/she is in his own half of the field of play
  • he/she receives the ball directly from a goal kick
  • he/she receives the ball directly from a throw-in
  • he/she receives the ball directly from a corner-kick
  • there is a  drop ball by the referee
  • the ball was last played by an opponent
  • there are two or more of his opponents nearer to their own goal line than he/she is

(b)        INSTANCE THAT MAY BE REGARDED AS FOUL PLAY IN HOCKEY
            -           interfering with the game without a stick in hand
-           kicking the ball other than the goalkeeper

  • playing with the back of the stick
  • ball deflecting from the hand of a player while attempting to stop the ball
