Observation

This question was attempted by few candidates and their performance was poor. In part (a) the few candidates that answered the question mixed up their answers . In part (b) the candidates that answered the question missed the track.

6. CONTRIBUTIONS OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING BODIES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN WEST AFRICA

(a)(i) CHRISTIAN MISSIONARIES
- introduction of physical training for physical fitness of the individual
- physical training syllabus was introduced by the Christian missionaries
- introduction of team games/sports in schools
- introduction of recreational/leisure time activities
- organisation of sports competitions in West Africa
- training of Physical Education personnel at home and abroad.

(ii) COLONIAL ADMINISTRATORS
- introduction of physical training in the school curriculum
- introduction of British sports into West Africa
- organisation of sports for schools
- training of teachers for sports activities in schools
- establishment of recreational clubs.

(iii) BRITISH COUNCIL
- Introduction of physical training syllabus in schools
- promotion of physical education to various parts of West Africa
- scholarship to West Africa citizens to study Physical Education abroad.
