Question 3

An electron moves with a speed of 2.00 x 107 ms-1 in an orbit in a uniform magnetic field of 1.20 x 10-3T.  Calculate the radius of the orbit.
[ Mass of an electron  =  9.11 x 10-31kg; charge on an electron  =  1.61 x 10-19C]

Observation

 

Not a popular question among the candidates.  The few that attempted it were not able to recall the formula correctly and calculated wrongly.  Few got the correct formula but could not handle the exponents correctly.  This goes to show that the topic was poorly treated or skipped by most teachers.
