Weakness and Remedies

The following were observed as the candidates’ weaknesses. Inability to:

• read measurements made from basic physics instruments like metre rule to the required accuracy;
• to match points on the x-y coordinates;
• choose correct scales for plotting of graph;
• handle decimal figures in terms of the use of standard forms on the graph;
• use correct terminologies on reporting;
• use reasonable scale for the graph
• draw line of best fit.

The following remedies were proffered:

• Government should build well equipped laboratories in schools across the nation;
• Teachers should expose potential candidates to practical work early enough;
• Teachers should endeavor to attend WAEC coordination and marking exercise to acquire more experience;
• Qualified teachers should be employed to teach students from SS1 to SS3;
• Teachers should be subjected to rigorous in-service training to improve and acquaint themselves with the latest knowledge in science.
