(a) Define the term heritage.

(b) Outline any five ways in which heritage is important to a nation.

(c) Highlight any four function of National commission for Museums and Monuments.

This question was popularly attempted by the candidates and their performance was good in the (a) and (b) component of the question. However they performed poorly in the (c) component of the question.

The functions of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments are: - Responsible for the collection of art work

- Responsible for the documentation of art work

- Responsible for conservation of heritage works/ arts

- Responsible for the preservation of art works

- Responsible for the management of national heritages

- Establishment of national museums

- Maintains national museums, antiquities and monuments

- It recommends to states and other private agencies on the establishment and management of museums and monuments

- It overseers the administration of museums and monuments in Nigeria

- It carries out research, education and training on museums, heritages and antiquities

- Represents Nigeria at international cultural bodies such as the International Council of Museums (ICOM), etc

- It is the implementing agency for UNESCO World Heritage programmes for Nigeria
