Question 1

(a)  Muhimmancin haɗin kan jama’ar ƙasa.
The importance of unity to the people of the country

(b)  Wani was an kwallon kafa da ya burge ni.

(c)  A ra’ayinnka, wanne ya fi, tsaƙanin yin karatu a gida Nijeriya da yin sa a ƙasar waje?

(d)  Rubuta wasiƙa zuwa ga editan jaridar Aminiya ka ba da shawarwari a kan yadda za a magance gusowar hamada a karkararku

Write a letter to the editor, Aminiya Newspaper suggesting measures that could be taken to stop desert encroachment in your area.

(e) Ba a fafe gora ranar tafiya.

Observation

(a) In this question above, candidates were required to explain the importance of unity among the people of the entire country. In doing so, they are expected to define unity and mention various development that occurred as a result of unity among the people of a country. For example, unity brings:
Growth and development
Security
Patriotism
Mutual understanding
Peaceful co-existence
Economic development
It shuns dictatorship

Some candidates wrote address when answering the question while it is not a letter writing.

 

(b) This is a descriptive essay. The candidates are expected to describe where and when the match took place. They are also required to describe:

The time
The venue
The security of the venue
The guests in the venue
The clubs in participation
The category of the match
The most exciting things about the match
The trophies or prizes wined and presented.

Candidates were expected to explained about the country (the place) that the match took place, the time and how it took place. Some candidates ended up saying number of scores and mentioning names of clubs only.

 

(c) In your own opinion, which is the best between studying in Nigeria and abroad? The question is an argumentative essay. Candidates were required to support either of the two options and advances reasons for their choice.

- Studying in Nigeria:
- Students will not be yearning home
- It is less Coast
- No need for monetary exchange
- Indigenous cultures and customs are maintained.
- parents can observe their children
- disciplinary measures can be taken instantly.
- it makes researches easier with the available resources
- on ground.

- Studying abroad:
- Modern instructional materials are provided.
- No strike in schools abroad
- teachers are respected and students benefited
- students abroad maintained high status.
- They possesses international relationship

Few candidates attempted the question and their performances was fair.

 

(d) This is a formal letter, and the candidates were expected to reflect all the features of the formal letter in their letters. The letter should contained the following features:

- the writer’s address
- date
- the editor’s address
- Salutation
- heading
- content
- conclusion

Many candidates attempted the question and their performance was commendable.

 

(e) The statement above is a proverb. Candidates were required to give its meaning by narrating a story that will interprete the meaning and also ended with the proverb as well or its equivalent, for example:
- “An bar shiri tun rani.”
- shirin zaune, ya fi na tsaye.

Few candidates attempted the question and their performance was fair.
