This was a very popular question and many candidates performed well in part (a) though many others did not spell the names correctly. However, part (b) of the question was very challenging to candidates and they did not score good marks there. Some candidates could not differentiate between the benefits Nigeria has derived from OAU and the general achievements of the organization. They therefore centred their discussion on the achievements and the roles of OAU. To earn good marks, candidates were expected to discuss the following points.
(a) (i) Diallo Telli of Guinea;
(ii) Nzo Egankaki of Cameroun;
(iii) William Eteki of Cameroun;
(iv) Edem Kodjo of Togo.
(b) (i) Nigeria hosted OAU summit which occasioned infrastructural development in the country;
(ii) in 1967, African Development Bank was established. This gave advice to the government of Nigeria on financial matters;
(iii) the country also got grants and loans from the Bank;
(iv) many Nigerians were employed in the service of the organization;
(v) participation in sporting activities – African games. |
