This was a very popular question and most candidates who attempted it performed very well. However, a very few of them listed the points correctly but did not expatiate on them. This therefore earned them low scores. The following points needed to be explained in detail in order to score good marks.
- They were not wholeheartedly welcomed by the local people;
- unfavourable climatic conditions did not allow them to follow-up their converts;
- opposition was mounted by prominent people during the period when Western education was to be used to convert the people. The people believed that Western education would make their children abandon them;
- inter tribal wars disturbed the growth of Christianity as the mission’s base was destroyed;
- the people were reluctant to be trained as clergymen.
