This was a popular question. Many candidates that attempted it performed below average as they fail to understand the demands of the question.

The candidates were expected to explain the following points in order to score good marks.

• The British used treaty of protection for the annexation of some Igbo territories.
• The use of military assault e.g. Akwette, Owerri and Bende.
• The destruction of oracle e.g. the Long Juju of Arochukwu.
• The imprisonment of the leadership of the Ekumeku Movement.
• The use of divide and rule tactics.
• Blocking of trade routes.
