Question 10
Examine the persona's view of ageing in "The Panic of Growing Older."
Observation
A good number of candidates attempted this question. However, most of their answers are shallow; others gave a mere narration of the poem.
Candidates were expected to discuss the following points:
• The inevitability of ageing.
• The process of aging- from childhood to death.
• The initial hopes and expectations as people grow up and the panic over unrealised dreams, followed by terminal diseases.
• The final yielding to fate/death.
Candidates' performance was poor.
