This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was good. In part (a)(i)
candidates correctly named the equipment illustrated in the diagram. In (a) (ii) candidates also mentioned track events in athletics in which the equipment illustrated is used, few candidates lost
marks because they mentioned wrong answers like marathon and cross country and in (a)(iii)
candidates correctly listed other equipment used in track event in athletics.
In part (b)(i) majority of the candidates lost mark because of their inability to mention stages in
the execution of triple jump in athletics, in (b )(ii) candidates stated phases in pole vault similarly,
few candidates lost marks due to their inability to state phases in pole vault event in athletics and
in (b )(iii) candidates correctly mentioned officials that could be involved in both track and field
events in athletics.
