This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair. In part (a)(i)
many of the candidates correctly listed types of shot in handball game and in (a)(ii) many
candidates could not explain when a goal is considered to have been scored in a game of
handball. In part (b )(i) few candidates stated instances when a serving team scores a point in a
volleyball game and in (b )(ii) however, majority of the candidates lost marks due to their
inability to state offences that could lead to the award of a penalty shot in a hockey game.

- opponent touches the net with any part of the body
- opponent hands crosses over the net to play the ball
- opponent steps over the centre line
- an opposing backline player more to the attack area to spikeiblock the ball over
the net
- a returned ball crossesltouches the net outside the antennae
- a returned ball goes out of court
- ball passes under the net.
(ii) Offences that could lead to the award of a Penalty shot in a hockey game
- holding the stick of an attacker who is about to score
- when a defender/goalkeeper commits "stick" to save a goal
- when a defender stops the ball intentionally with any part of the body
- playing the ball dangerously within the striking circle by a defender
- charging/holding the attacker who is about to score
- persistent breaching of the goal line rule by defender during penalty corner
- goalkeeper preventing the attacker from playing the ball by lying on it.
