Observation

This question was well attempted and the performance of the candidates was average.

In part (a), majority of the candidates mentioned the duties of referee.
In part (b), few candidates mentioned lines on the handball court.

(a) Duties of a referee during the game of basketball
The referee:

• conducts the toss for the teams
• takes decision on whether to continue or abandon a match
• enforces the rules and regulations
• inspects and approves facility and equipment
• rejects unsuitable match equipment
• keeps record of the game
• acts as the timekeeper
• cautions the players
• takes final decision
• issues red and yellow cards to players
• starts and ends the game

• side line;
• centre line;
• goal line;
• substitution line;
• goal area line.
