Demonstrate skillfully a good height in high jump event, paying attention to the approach, take-off, clearance and landing. [25 marks]
Observation
This question was attempted by all the candidates and their performance was good, due to
candidates familiarity with high jump, majority of the candidates demonstrated skillfully a
good height with attention to approach, take-off, clearance and landing.
However, the expected answers are as follows:
Activity 1: Clearance of a good height in the high jump event
Procedure: Candidates are allowed three trials each. The best of the three trials will be recorded as the score. Use the scale of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 as shown below to rate the following phases: approach, take-off, clearance and landing.

All performance will be judged according to the following rubrics:
Approach:
- from a comfortable distance
- towards the direction of the crossbar
- run/walk
- start from comfortable angle
Take – off:
- as close as possible to take crossbar
- on one foot
- body is lifted from the ground
- full extension of the take-off leg
- forceful contact/stamping of foot on the ground
Clearance:
- body in the air
- body rolls over
- vigorous arm swing
- knees are bent
- involves lifting, crossing and descending
Landing:
- head lifted/leading
- hip dropped
- legs straightened
- lands on the back/leg
- hands and shoulder relaxed
Product Evaluation
The height jumped is recorded in metres and read off the conversion table
