Question 6

Using the forehand drive, hit a table tennis ball continuously against an upright surface for 30 seconds. [20 marks]

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor.  Candidates

could not answer the question due to the fact that they did not learn any skill related to racket

game therefore, candidates could not handle racket using forehand drive against an upright surface for 30 seconds in table tennis.

 

 

 

The expected answers are as follows:

 

Activity 6:       Forehand drive in Table Tennis

           

Procedure:       The candidates put the ball into play by allowing the ball to bounce on the table once and then hit it continuously against the upright surface for 30 seconds using the forehand drive.  The ball must hit above the 15.24cm net line and must also bounce at least once on the table before being returned.   Candidate must not place his/her hand on the table.  Two trials are allowed.

Use the scale of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 to score grip, execution and footwork and candidate performs the

activity.

 All performance will be judged according to the following rubrics.

 

Grip

(i)         held at the handle

(ii)        firmly held

(iii)       adopt a comfortable type of grip

(iv)       wrist is flexible

(v)        in pen hold grip thumb and four fingers enclose the handle in hand-shake grip thumb and four fingers lie close to the neck.

    

Footwork

(i)         stand in astride position

(ii)        facing the table

(iii)       close to the table

(iv)       player moves in the direction of the ball

(v)        free body from the table

 

Execution       

(i)         ball is struck

(ii)       the hand holding the bat extended backward

(iii)       hands with bat extended forward to hit the ball

(iv)       body leans forward

(v)        ball travels close to the net

The purpose is to measure the ability to rally table tennis ball against an upright surface using forehand drive

Scoring

1 point is recorded for each ball hitting above the 15.24cm net line.  The total number of hits in 30 seconds is plotted against the conversion table as shown.
