Observation
The question was attempted by few candidates and their performance was poor. Candidates are not familiar with basketball skill therefore, they could not successfully assume a position behind a restraining line and use the chest pass to propel the ball in a game of basketball at a target marked on a wall.
However, the expected answers are as follows:
Activity 4: Chest pass in Basketball game
Procedure: The candidate assumes a position behind the 5 metres restraining line while facing the targets marked on a wall. The ball is propelled at the target using the two hands from the chest level. Three trials are allowed. Use the rating scale below to score hold, stance, execution and follow – through as the candidate performs the activity.
Process Evaluation Rating Scale
All performance will be judged according to the following rubrics: Hold: (i) with the two hands (ii) fingers spread (iii) thumbs behind the ball (iv) at chest level (v) close to the body
Stance: (i) in standing position (ii) one leg forward (iii) feet in contact with the ground (iv) elbows are bent (v) focus on target
Execution (i) full extension of arms (ii) wrists are snapped (iii) ball pushed straight forward (iv) body leans forward (v) rear leg moves forward/follow through
Product Evaluation The purpose is to measure accuracy in passing. The targets as shown in the diagram below are marked on a wall. Three rectangles, one inside the other appear as the targets. Their sizes are shown on parallel to the floor and the bottom of the largest rectangle is 35.6cm from the floor. The best of three (3) trials is recorded as the score, ball hitting the margin between two areas receives the higher points. Product Evaluation Scoring Sheet
