(a) (i) Define the term geometrical stair.

(ii)  List three material used for stair construction.

  1. Sketch an elevational view of a double-casement window and label the following:

Observation

 

Majority of the candidates were able to:
 

  •  list three material used for stair construction;
  • state two functions of window.
  • However, majority of them failed to  sketch an elevational view of a double-casement window and label the following:

 

  • stile;
  • top rail.

 

The expected response to question 3 is as given below:

3(a) (i) Geometrical stair definition:

it is a stair constructed with threads that are tapered on plan and which are arranged around a central support.

 

  • Materials used for stair construction:
  • stone;
  • timber;
  • reinforced concrete;
  • sandcrete block or brick;  
  • steel.                                                                                                                                 

 (b) Functions of a window:

  • to allow free ventilation into the building;
  • to allow illumination into the building that is borrowed light;
  • to allow the occupant of the building to view from the outside;
  • to allow occupant to view outside;
  • for aesthetic purpose.
