Civic Education Paper 2 Aug./Sept. 2018

SECTION A

NATIONAL ETHICS, DISCIPLINE, RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS

Question 1

(a)       Explain Nationalism
(b)       List the names of any four Nigerian nationalist before independence

(c)       Highlight four achievements of Nigerian nationalist before independence

Observation

This was a popular question. The performance of most candidates who answered it was good as they really understood its demands. Candidates did better in both the A and B parts as compared to the C part of the question. They were able to explain the meaning of nationalism and give names of Nigerian nationalists before independence. The weakness in the C part is attributed majorly to candidates just merely listing the achievements of Nigerian nationalists before independence and not explaining some of these points thereby losing full marks. Some of the answers candidates were expected to provide in the C part include;

  1. Establishment of newspapers/radio/television.
  2. Contribution to growth of education.
  3. Formation of political parties.
  4. Formation of nationalist movements/platforms/trade unions.
  5. Contribution to the formation of youth movements.
  6. Instrumental to the formation of West African Students Union (WASU).
  7. Represented Nigeria in constitutional conferences.
  8. Fought for the independence of Nigeria.
  9. Mobilized Nigerians through rallies and protests.
  10. Mobilized workers for industrial actions against colonial policies/rules.
