(a)        List four job opportunities available in the fisheries industry.   [4 marks]
(b)       Enumerate six sources of pollution of fish pond water.    [6 marks]
(c)        Describe how each of the following fishing gears is used to catch fish:
(i)         cast net;
(ii)        hook and line. [10 marks]

This question was popular among the candidates. Majority of the candidates that responded to it performed fairly.

In part (a), majority of the candidates that responded to it were not able to list job opportunities available in fisheries industry. The ones they listed were not related to fisheries industry.

In part (b), majority of the candidates enumerated sources of fish pond water.

In part (c), this is a practical based question. The answers of the candidates indicated that majority of them did not know that cast net, hook and line were fishing gears.

(c) i  - the net is thrown or cast skillfully by either the fisher over the water surface
- the thrown net is allowed to spread in a circle and gradually sink to the bottom
- fish within the circle or coverage area of the net are captured
- fisher gently pulls the hand line and the fishes get trapped in the net bag
- the fishes get trapped through the narrowing of the mouth of the net
- the net is hauled
- trapped fishes are removed / retrieved

- a bait is placed on the hook
- the hook is lowered into the water
- the line may be attached to a stationary object or held in the hand
- the fish swallows the bait with hook and is caught
- vibration of line / floater is observed
- the fisher pulls the fish out of the water
- the fisher detaches the fish from the hook
