a) List three procedures for troubleshooting a faulty mobile phone.

b) Explain each of the procedures listed in 2(a).

Candidates’ performance was poor. This question required the candidates’ knowledge of troubleshooting faulty phones.

The expected answers are:

a. Procedures for Troubleshooting 

  - visualisation;

  -knowledge of the phone status;

  -software checking;

  -analysis of the circuit board.


b. Explanation of Procedures listed in 2(a)

  -Visualisation

  - Examine critically the PCB for possible burnt components, corrosion, breakage, dust accumulation etc.

  -Knowledge of the Phone status

       Ask for the history of the phone from the owner/ user e.g. contact with liquid, frequent falling, wrong insertion/incompatible charger, etc.

  -Software checking

      Use of flashing device to read the logs of the phone.

  -Analysis of the circuit board

      Use of meter to test components.
