This was also an unpopular question. Many candidates avoided this question, the few that attempted it performed woefully in part (b). Nevertheless, the candidates were expected to explain the following points in order to score good marks:

            (b)        (i)         It contributed to the political awareness  in British West Africa by                                                  organizing conferences in Accra, Lagos, Freetown and Bathurst.
(ii)        It helps to establish higher educational institutions in British West Africa.
(iii)       It influenced the establishment of a West African Court of Appeal with its headquarters in Accra.
(iv)       It sent a delegation to the Secretary of State for the colonies in London                                           to protest against British administration and make certain demands.
(v)        Through the efforts of the Congress, the elective principle was                                            introduced in British West Africa.
(vi)       It united the educated elite in British West Africa.
(vii)      Their activities led to an increase in African representation in the                                                    Legislative Council in British West Africa.
(viii)     Their efforts brought about political, social and economic change in                                               British West African countries.
