Question 1

(c) Wanda ya fi muhimmanci ga jama’a tsakanin manomi da makiyayi.

A farmer and a herder, who is more important to society?

(d) A matsayinka na shugaban qungiyar manoma tumaturi, rubuta wasiqa zuwa ga gwamnan jiharku, ka roqe shi da ya samar maku hanyar inganta sana’arku.

As the Chairman of the Tomato Farmers Association, write a letter to your state governor requesting him to make provisions that will improve your occupation.

(e) Sannu ba ta hana Zuwa.

Going slowly does not prevent you from getting there.


 

Observation

(a) Candidates were required to narrate their experience at an important occasion they had attended and in doing so, they were expected to highlight some points which should include the following:

* To explain the nature of the occasion (i.e wedding celebration or sallah festival or Christmas celebrations or naming ceremony or turbaning ceremony, etc);

* To state the date of the occasion;

* The town and venue of the occasion;

* The invited guests;

* The most impressive session of the occasion;

* The speeches and addresses delivered;

* The entertainment and refreshment;

* The prizes presented( if any);

* The challenges that might have been encountered during the occasion;

* How the occasion ended; etc.

 

Candidates’ performance on this question was encouraging.


(b) Above is an expository essay and the candidates were expected to write on the meaning and importance of discipline and how it helps in the individual life and the community at large. Thus, some major points required include:

* Definition of discipline;

* The importance of discipline which include:

- It brings about peace and harmony among people;

- It makes people to be good;

- It brings mutual respect;

- It brings good life;

- It provides condusive atmosphere for teaching and learning;

- It teaches good norms;

- It shuns bad attitudes;

- It brings economic development;

- It improves cordial relationship among families and communities at large, etc.

 

Many candidates attempted the question and their performance was good.



(c) The question above is an argumentative essay, it sought the opinion of candidates as regards the more important to people between a farmer and a herder. In attempting the question, candidates were expected to take a position and advance convincing reasons for that.

i. A farmer is the more important:

Candidates that proposed this opinion were expected to highlight the following points:

* Define a farmer;

* The importance of a farmer:

- provides food to the people and the nation;

- contributes to the national economic growth;

- provides industries with the raw materials;

- creation of job opportunities;

- self reliance, etc.

ii. A herder is the more important:

Candidates that proposed this opinion were expected to feature the following points:

  • Define a herder;
  • The importance of a herder:
    • provides farmers with bulls for farming;
    • provides farmers with manure;
    • provides meat and milk;
    • conserves the traditional way of rearing;
    • contributes to the growth of the economy;
    • provides industries with raw materials like:
      • hides and skin;
      • milk and meat;
      • feathers, etc.
    • he produce traditional herbs;
    • creation of job opportunities, etc.

 

Many candidates attempted the question and their performance was good.


(d)Above is a formal letter writing. The candidates were expected to write a formal letter using the following format:

* Address of the writer;

* The date;

* Address of the receipient;

* Salutation;

* The heading;

* Content;

* Conclusion;

The content of the letter may include the following points :

-To encourage farmers to form co-operative societies;

-To come up with development projects for the farmers;

-To provide farmers with modern farming machines and tools e.g:

* Tractors and equipments;

* Machines and tools;

* Irrigation plants;

-To provide adequate fertilizer;

- To provide adequate herbicides etc.

 

Many candidates attempted the question and their performance was commendable.



(e) The statement above is a proverb.Candidates were required to give its meaning,narrate a story that ends with the proverb and further identify other similar proverbs, for example:

* Da rarrafe akan tashi

* Mai haquri shi ke dafa dutse, har ya sha romonsa.

* Sannu-sannu kwana nesa.

* Mahaqurci mawadaci.

* Kome nisan dare, gari zai waye.

 

Few candidates attempted the question and their performance was fair.
