Question 1

(a) Yadda za a yaqi cin hanci a qasar nan.

How to fight against corruption in our country.

(b) Wata kasuwar zamani da na tava ziyarta.

A modern market that I once visited.

(c) A ra’ayinka wanne ya fi, tsakanin ciniki bashi da ciniki kuxi hannu.

In your own opinion, which is a better way of trading- allowing credit facilities or strictly payment before service?

(d) Rubuta wasiqa zuwa ga shugaban makarantarku, ka ba shi shawara a kan yadda za a inganta koyarwa a makarantar.

Write a letter to your principal suggesting ways to improve teaching and learning in the school.

(e) zama lafiya ya fi zama xan sarki.

Observation

(a) In not less than three hundred (300) words, candidates were required to write and suggest various ways of fighting against corruption in the country. In doing that, they were expected to enumerate some possible measures that can be used to overcome the situation . However, some points expected from them include the following:

* Government should enlighten the general public about corruption and it’s effects on economic development;

* Establishment of non-governmental organizations (NGO’S) and enactment of rights to freedom of information laws;

* Exposing any public office holder for misappropriation of public funds;

* Creation of job opportunities for the youth; etc.

 

Candidates’ performance on this question was encouraging.


(b) Above is an Expository Essay and the candidates were expected to write about a modern market that they visited some time. Thus, some major points required include:

* Name, town, local government and state of the market;

* The market plan;

* The safety of life and properties in the market;

* The sources of revenue generation from the market;

* The type of goods that are sold in the market;

* The customers that are patronizing the market; etc.

 

Few candidates attempted the question and their performance was good.



(c) The question above is on Argumentative Essay, it sought the opinion of candidates as regards the better way of trading- cash or credit? In attempting the question, candidates were expected to take a position and advance convincing reasons for that.

 

Few candidates attempted the question and their performance was fair.


(d)Above is a Formal Letter Writing. The candidates were expected to write a formal letter using the following format:

Address of the writer;

Date ;

Address of the recipient;

Salutation;

Heading;

Content;

Conclusion:

Signature;

Full name of writer; etc.

The content of the letter may include the following points among others:

Good governance;

Employment of sufficient and qualified teachers;

Provision of sufficient and qualitative teaching and learning materials; etc.

 

Many candidates attempted the question and their performance was commendable.



(e) The statement above is a proverb. Candidates were required to give its meaning, narrate a story that interprets the proverb and further identify other similar proverbs, for example:

Da arziki da tashin hankali, gara talauci da kwanciyar hankali.

Tsohon agogonka ya fi sabuwar ankwa.

Da wulakanci, gara gidadanci.

Mahaqurci, mawadaci.

Da muguwar rawa gara qin tashi.
