    (a) Identify the condition in A and B.   [2marks]
    (b) Mention the two materials used in condition B.  [2marks]
    (c) State four symptoms experienced by the victim in Condition B          [4marks]
    (d) State two First aid that should be given to the victim in condition A      [2marks]

 

Observation

 

This question was attempted by majority of the candidates and their performance was fairly well. In part (a) some candidates were able to identify the diagram A and B. In part (b) they did well in it, but some candidates could not mention material used in condition B.  In part (c) many candidates were able to state symptoms experienced by the victim in Condition B.  In part (d) many candidates could state First Aid treatment that should be given to the victim in condition A.

A -  dislocation/sprain
B -   fracture

(b)       MATERIALS USED IN CONDITION B

  • Splint/named
  • Bandage/named

 (c)      SYMPTOMS EXPERIENCED BY THE VICTIM IN CONDITION B
-           severe pain
-           inactive/immobility/loss of function
-           discolouration of the damaged spot
-           bleeding may occur/shock
-           parts concerned swell/tenderness
-           deformity/irregularity in bone appearance/named
-            pierce in the skin
-            limping/unnatural movement
-            broken bone

(d)       FIRST AID THAT COULD BE GIVEN TO THE VICTIM IN CONDITION A
-           support injured part in a comfortable position
-           use cold water/ice block/cold compress on the affected part
-           use handkerchiefs or a bandage to bind the affected part/immobilise

            -           keep injured part elevated.
