How is Catherine revealed as an accomplished liar the garden scene?

 
Observation

Candidates were expected to discuss the following instances of Catherine’s lies in the garden scene:

  • She lies about her husband’s coat which was given to Bluntschil to enable him escape from the Petkoffs home, during the war.

 

  • On Bluntschil’s return of the coat, Catherine is unwilling to let people know about her secret, she tells more lies to cover-up.
  • About the presence of Bluntschil in the Petkoffs’ home, she backs Raina’s lie about her familiarity with Bluntschil.

 

  • She lies about Nicola’s reception and introduction of Bluntschil.

The question was poorly attempted by candidates.
