Generally, the candidates exhibited poor knowledge of the selected texts; consequently they could not adequately back up their writings with quotations from the texts. Poor command of English also affected the quality of answers given by the candidates.

3.         SUGGESTED REMEDIES

1.  Candidates should endeavour to buy the prescribed texts and study them properly.
2. Candidates should be encouraged to develop a good reading culture by both parents and teachers.
3. Candidates should be discouraged from relying on abridged texts or               

     keynotes in preparation for the examination.
