Many candidates attempted this question. Rather than discuss the Maligu’s contribution to the development of the plot, they gave mere narrations of his character without giving his contributions.

The following points were expected from the candidates:

• Maligu is the Chief adviser to the king.
• He is instrumental to the coming of Whitehead and assisting him in exploiting the mineral resorces of Mandoland.
• Maligu’s success in making Soko complicit through bribery and blackmail.
• His role in the ddeath of Parker through Kindo which leads to Kindo’s banishment from the kingdom.
