The following points should be developed by candidates:

• Tony’s deliberate misdirection of Young Marlow and Hastings to Mr Hardcastle’s house as an inn.
• Mr and Mrs Hardcastle’s agreeable disagreements.
• Tony’s playing of pranks on his mother and his stepfather whose wig he fastens to a chair.
• Young Marlow mistaking Miss Hardcastle for a barmaid.
