Question 12
Examine the schoolboy’s reaction to adult interference with nature in ‘The School Boy’.
Observation
This was a popular question. However, the candidates were not able to fully analyse the school boy’s desires, hence, the inability to describe adult interference.
The required answers should include the following points:
- • Theme of adult interference with the natural inclinations of children to enjoy life and to be as free as nature itself when it displays its pleasures in summer.
- • The bounty of nature as presented by the schoolboy.
- • Adult interference as pointed out by the schoolboy.
- • The appeal to parents.
- • What deprived children suffer in old age.
Candidates’ performance was fair.
