This was a popular question, but majority of the candidates gave sketchy examples of the symbols and could not adequately relate it to the theme of the play.

Candidates were expected to discuss the following points:

• • The use of symbols to develop the theme of corruption in the play.
• • Definition/explanation of symbols.
• • Examples of symbols used in the play with an explanation in the play.

Candidates’ performance in this question was poor.
