(a)(i)    List six basic skills in table tennis game.                                                           [3 marks]
    (ii)   Explain the procedure for service in a doubles table tennis game.                   [4 marks]

(b)(i)    State four instances when a service is faulty in a badminton game.                [4 marks]
     (ii)  Name four equipment in the game of badminton                                             [4 marks]

(c)(i)    State three instances when players change sides of court in a tennis game.    [3 marks]     (ii)         State two conditions under which a referee can postpone a tennis game.        [2 marks]

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and the candidates’ performance was fair. In part (a)(ii) candidates could not explain the procedure for service in a doubles table tennis game.  In part (b)(i) candidates could not state instances when a service is faulty in a badminton game.  Also in part (c)(i) candidates could not state instances when players change sides of court in a tennis game.

The expected answers were as follows:

   (ii)   Procedure for service in a double table tennis game

  1. the first partner serves the ball
  2. the ball is served next by the opponent who received the first/last service
  3. the third round of service is delivered by the partner of the first server
  4. the fourth round of service is delivered by the partner of the second servers/first receiver.

(b)(i)    Instances when a service is faulty in a badminton game
            -   Serving without tossing the shuttle
            -   Loosing contact with the ground while serving
            -   Hitting the shuttle above the waist level
            -   Crossing the short service line/middle line while serving
            -   Carrying the shuttle with the racket
            -   Serving into the wrong service court
            -   Serving through/under the net.
                                                                                                        
   (ii)   Equipment in the game of badminton:
  -    Net
  -    Racket
  -    Umpire stand
  -    Shuttle cork/bird/feather
  -    Dress/named.
                                                                                                 
(c)(i)  Instances when players change sides of court in a tennis game:
          -    At the end of the first set
          -    At the end of the third set
          -    At every subsequent alternate game of each set
          -    When the total number of game in a set is even, sides are changed at the end of

                the first game of the next set
