This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair.  In part (a)(i) candidates mentioned parts of a tennis racket correct.  In part (a) (ii) candidates failed to mention that each of the two opposing players for the toss chooses one side of the coin or bat in the description of the procedure for conducting a toss for the start of a table tennis game.  In part (b) candidates could not explain clear and smash correctly as terms in badminton game.  In part (c), candidates were able to state rules in table tennis game.

The expected answers were as follows:

(a)(i)    Parts of a tennis racket

• the umpire invites the two opposing players

• Smash

                 This is a hand and fast downward hit of the shuttle cork rarely return the smash

• Clear:

                 This is a high shot/cob which falls close/deep to the opponents back line/base line
    (iii)        Mixed doubles:
                 A pair of male and female players playing against an opposing pair of male and female players

• Rules in table tennis
• Bat must be used to play the ball;
• service is delivered in the single play by the same player until two points have been scored;
• servers point is always counted first before the receiver count;
• table must not be pushed/touched during play;
• any part of the body/cloth should not touch the table;
• ball must not bounce more than once on one side of the table before

crossing the net to opponent table;

• ball must not be hit-twice by players;
• ball must be shown/tossed;
