This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor.  In part (a) (i) candidates could not draw table tennis bat instead candidates wrongly drew tennis racket.  In part (a) (ii) candidates stated three duties of an umpire in a table tennis game out of five requested.   In part (b) few candidates could give more than three instances when a player loses a rally in singles games in Badminton.  In part (c), candidates mentioned equipment as facility used in table tennis game e.g. bat, ball and net.  In part (d) candidates could not explain side out and foot fault as terms used in game of Badminton. 

The expected answers were as follows:

• ensures that any scoring device to be used is functional;
• ensures continuity of the game
    (b)    Instances when a player loses a rally in single’s game in Badminton
  A player loses a rally when:
            -           he fails to return the shuttle over the net into opponents court;
  -           he plays shuttle cork through/under the net;
  -           he touches the shuttle cork with his personal dress;

• he obstructs an opponent;
• he hits the shuttle twice in succession;
• the shuttle lands outside the court/boundary lines;
• the shuttle is caught and held on the racket during the game/during play;
• shuttle touches the ceiling/roof.
