(a) Mention five skills in table tennis game. [5 marks]

(b) Explain each of the following terms as used in tennis game:
(i)  set point;        
(ii) volley;
(iii) lob; [6 marks]

(c)   State five faults which could be committed during rally in badminton game[5 marks]
(d) Mention:
(i)   two types of tennis court surface [2 marks]
(ii)  the two types of game that can be played on a tennis court during
competition. [2 marks]

Observation

 

 

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor. 

In part (a) candidates correctly mentioned skills in table tennis game.

In part (b) candidates could not explain set point, volley and lob as terms used in tennis game.

In part (c) candidate also could not correctly state faults which could be committed during rally in badminton  game.  In part (d) (i) and (ii) candidates correctly mentioned types of tennis court surface and type of game that can be played on a tennis court during competition.

(b)  EXPLANATION OF TERMS USED IN TENNIS GAME
(i)       SET POINT

  -           A point, which if won, by the player who is ahead, win the set

(ii) VOLLEY

-  Hitting the ball in the air before it bounces/touches the ground

(iii)  LOB

-  A shot lifted high into the air above the reach of a playing opponent and lands near the base line.

(c)   FAULTS THAT COULD BE COMMITTED DURING RALLY IN A BADMINTON GAME

-           obstruction of an opponent/explained
-           failure to return the shuttlecock/shuttle over the net into opponents court  
-          touching the shuttlecock/shuttle with the body or dress
-          a receiver strikes the shuttlecock/ shuttle before it crosses over the net
-          touching the net or its support with the racket during play
-          playing the shuttlecock/shuttle under the net
-          playing the shuttlecock/shuttle into the net
-          playing the shuttlecock /shuttle out of the court
