    (a) State five values that can be derived from performing gymnastic activities    [5 marks]

    (b) Describe briefly the performance of their vault activity under the following headings:  

    (i) approach;       [1 mark]

    (ii) execution;     [2 marks]

    (iii) finish       [2 marks]

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair. 

In part (a) (i) few candidates correctly stated values that can be derived from performing gymnastics activities.

In part (b) candidates could not correctly describe the performance of their vault activity under the following headings: approach, execution and finish.

 However, the expected answers are as follows:

 

9(a)  VALUES THAT CAN BE DERIVED FROM GYMNASTIC ACTIVITIES
-   develops muscles strength
-   supple joints
-   develops physical power

-   develops courage/boldness

(b) DESCRIPTION OF THIEF VAULT ACTIVITY UNDER THE FOLLOWING HEADINGS
(i)  APPROACH
-   from standing position
-  run fast towards the box

(ii)  EXECUTION
- make a single take-off
- kick the non take –off leg up straight forward
- bend the take-off leg at the knee during flight
-push hip forward with a straight leg   
- lean the body backward
- place straight arms on the bod to clear it     

  

(iii) FINISH
- arch the body forward with arms straight, sideways and upwards to gain recovery
- land on take-off leg before the other
- give in at the knee
- Maintain balance by standing straight
