Candidates' Weakness

The candidates’ weaknesses included their inability to:

  • label the parts shown on the athletic track;
  • describe the take-over zone in 4 x 100 metres;
  • state the rules guiding hurdling event;
  • explain staggered start in athletics;
  • state instances when a jump is considered invalid in triple jump event in athletics;
  • give reasons why 400m race is a sprint race;
  • state duties of a track referee during an athletic meet;
  • label the parts shown on the volleyball court;
  • state instances when a referee blows the whistle during a volleyball game;
  • explain scoop, flick push and hit as used in the game of hockey;
  • explain jump ball in a basketball game;
  • describe the procedure for conducting a toss for the start of a table tennis game;
  • explain the smash and clear in badminton game;
  • draw and label tennis bat;
  • mention facilities used in tennis game;
  • explain side out and foot fault in badminton;
  • state duties of an umpire in a table tennis game;
  • state instances when a player losses a rally in singles game in badminton;
  • describe the progression stages involved in the execution of forward roll in gymnastics;
  • describe the progressive stages involved in performing astride vault in gymnastics;
  • explain the term spotter correctly.

The following remedies were suggested to overcome the weaknesses:

  • Candidates should also have practical knowledge of sport facilities by visiting sports centres;
  • candidates should learn terms commonly used in Physical Education.
