Technical Drawing 3, WASSCE (PC 2ND), 2018

Question 5

The figure on above shows an engine part.  Assemble the parts and draw full size in first angle projection, the:

  1. plan;
  2. sectional front elevation on plane X – X;
  3. end elevation in the direction of arrow M.

[Assume suitable dimensions where necessary.]

Observation

Candidates were asked to assemble a given engine part and draw full size the plan, sectional front elevation on plan X – X and the elevation in the direction of arrow M.

Few candidates attempted this question but did not perform well.  Though the performance was fairly better when compared to previous year.

To solve this problem candidates were expected to do the following:

Plan

  1. draw in first angle projection;
  2. draw full size;
  3. draw the outline;
  4. draw 2 – centre lines;
  5. draw the cutting plane  X – X;
  6. draw the bracket – A;
  7. draw the bracket – B;
  8. draw the slot in bracket – B;
  9. draw the bolt head;
  10. draw the web;
  11. draw the hole in bracket – A;
  12. write plan.

Sectional front elevation on plane  X –X.

  1. draw in first angle projection;
  2. draw full size;
  3. draw 2 – centre lines;
  4. draw the outline;
  5. draw the bracket – A;
  6. draw the bracket  - B;
  7. draw the bolt and nut in the assembly;
  8. draw the hole in bracket – A;
  9. draw the slot in bracket – B;
  10. draw the web;
  11. section bracket – A;
  12. section bracket  - B;
  13. writing sectional front elevation.

End elevation

  1. draw in first angle projection;
  2. draw full size;
  3. draw 1 – centre line;
  4. draw bracket  - A;
  5. draw the outline;
  6. draw bracket – B;
  7. draw the slot in – B;
  8. draw the bolt and nut;
  9. write end elevation.

The solution is shown below:
