CANDIDATES WEAKNESSES AND SUGGESTED REMEDIES

Candidates were unable to:

- describe ways of preparing specimen F (Hay)

- state the botanical names of specimens C (Pueraria phaseoloides), D (Pennisetum purpureum) and E (Leucaena leucocephala)

- correctly state the harmful effects of specimen J (Soldier ants), K (Weaver bird) and L (Weevil)

- mention storage pests in farm animal production

- mention storage pests in farm animal production

- state the usesof specimens P (Wood shavings) and R (Spade)

- state the precaution observed when using specimen P

- describe how specimen V (Livestock bone) could be processed into bone meal


Consequent on the weaknesses observed from the candidates’ scripts, the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:

(i)Only competent graduates of Animal Science/Production should be saddled with the responsibility of teaching the subject in Senior Secondary Schools;

(ii) Animal Husbandry should be taught as a practical oriented subject through laboratory activities, field trips,excursions, etc and

(iii)Adequate facilities and textbooks on Animal Husbandry should be made available to enhance the teaching-learning of Animal Husbandry in Senior Secondary Schools.
